"Parasite" ("Gisaengchung", 2019), a film by Bong Joon Ho | Jesús Palacios
La Aventura

Not a horror or monster movie like The Host (2006) at all, but with a lot of elements of genre, specially suspense, black comedy and thriller. Parasite won the main award at Cannes, wich is good news for lovers of asian cinema on general and South Korean thriller in particular, because it´s a great piece of work, mixing social criticism, black humor and a violent and bloody clímax. The clever story is about a family of poor but witty koreans, desemployed and living by pirating the wifi from the vecinity and making trashy works, who infiltrate with crafty ways in a high class family as con artists becoming a sort of "parasites"... I can´t tell no more because the brilliant script it´s full of turning points and surprises, going from picaresque comedy situations to violent and thrilling moments. Of course it´s a kind of sociopolitical parable about the war class and the economical crisis, but it´s brilliantly structured like a real thrilling and suspenseful black comedy and I think can make the delights of good fans of interstitial horror and asian thriller, always very different from Hollywood with his amazing blend of genres and nuances. Almost three hours long but highly entertaining... and much better film than The Joker as mix from genre tropes and social commentary.
